For Spring/Summer 2027 collection, ‘CHAOTIC DISCORD’, KIDILL focuses on the possibilities of garment construction and material experimentation.
Stepping away from direct cultural symbols like graphic all-over prints and idea-driven collaborations, Hiroaki Sueyasu turns his attention to pattern-making and unique fabric treatments. Through these gestures, such as meticulous handcraft and a different perspective, he also uncovers something deeply rooted in his own creative instincts.
“Looking back, I’ve been doing KIDILL for more than 12 years. To say it without embarrassment, I finally feel ready to confront the depth of clothing itself,” says Sueyasu.
This exploration of structure and material reflects Sueyasu’s craftsmanship, turning garments into unfamiliar and distorted forms. Jackets, trousers, and shirts are built with multiple hidden darts, creating silhouettes that twist and move. Denim sets and sweatshirts feature cracked paint finishes: cut-out pieces are joined together with around 300 safety pins, then covered in several layers of crack-finish paint. Over time and through wear, the paint chips away, gradually revealing badges and hidden details underneath. More than a temporary gesture, these garments carry a sense of time within them. Tartan patterns are reconstructed into patchworks, intentionally enlarged and broken apart from their original form. The fabrics are then folded, creating another shift in the silhouette. Shirts, T-shirts, and denim pieces use a layered technique where flyer-like graphics printed on paper are coated with silicone and applied directly onto the garments. As parts naturally peel away, another silkscreened image appears underneath, creating layers of hidden imagery.
The collection’s only collaboration is with Juicy Couture. Drawing from the visual language of 2000s celebrity fashion, such as sequins, rhinestones, and wing symbols, the collaboration pushes these familiar elements to the extreme. Oversized hoodies are folded and reconstructed, creating an unexpected balance.
The title, CHAOTIC DISCORD, does not describe chaos as something distant or fixed. “It may sound convincing to describe it as an active departure from notions of legitimacy or authenticity, but even I don’t know whether these forms or states are truly beautiful,” says Sueyasu. “Chaos itself is something that is continually rewritten by time.
Expressions that once emerged on the street as chaos can, before long, settle into place as a kind of classic uniform. I have no interest in affirming those moments as answers. I still want to embed mystery and secrets within clothing”.
Guided by the same curiosity and instinct that have shaped KIDILL from the beginning, Spring/Summer 2027 continues to push the brand forward, opening new possibilities through experimentation, craftsmanship, and the unknown.
