Hel Looks - Fashion from the Streets of Helsinki

Senay Topcuoglu

Editor-in-Chief

According to Maslow's hierarchy of human needs which he often presented as a pyramid, with self-actualization at the top as the highest of those needs, in ones life. The base of the pyramid is the physiological needs, which are necessary for survival suchas water, food, warmth, health and dressing up the body.

We all have to wear clothes, less or more, fashionable or not, chic or sporty, trendy or casual. Clothesand dressing behaviors may change from different cultures, countries even the continents we're living in and actually, fashion is updated both by designers and the people using them as well.

We love real clothes on real people which form the life styles in fashion all around the world. There so many people taking photographs of "still life" and "people" from the streets and showing us the tension of the fashion in "Street Wear". Hel Looks is one of the selected street fashions from Helsinki, the capital of Finland. The pictures are taken in the streets and clubs of Helsinki from July 2005 onwards.

Hel Looks is a hobby project of Liisa Jokinen and Sampo Karjalainen. The project is a tribute to Fruits and Street magazines, the pioneers of street fashion photography. We advice you to take a look at these pictures and have some Finnish air...
