Monsoon Fusion Spring/Summer 2009

Now in its sixth season, Monsoon Fusion is designed exclusively in-house, and blends trend-driven design with Monsoon's signature style. This season, the collection has three distinctive looks:

Pushing Daisies
Inspired by all things ladylike, 'Pushing Daisies' is a trend infused with an eccentric, yet naïve, charm. An eclectic mix of ditsy prints, blurred florals and tailored stripes, the look incorporates the classic Fifties silhouette of nipped-in waists with sophisticated, mismatched styling. Colour clashing is key, combining magenta, plum and sorbet brights with sober monochromatic backgrounds for an unexpected and playful colour palette. Ruffles and soft layering add to the femininity of this collection, whilst fabric combinations of satins, jacquards, chiffons and knits further enhance its quirky character.

Oriental Garden
Take a trip full of Eastern promise for a collection that fuses vintage detailing with the delicate allure of the Orient. Inspired by the romance of nature, Japanesque floral prints and intricate embellishment are teamed with an uncomplicated silhouette, whilst a pretty spring palette of chalky pastels, highlighted with smudges of fuchsia, enhances the innocence of the collection. Embroidered cotton rich cardigans layered over flowing chiffon dresses are the key components, whilst softly pleated skirts and sheer lace tunics add texture and depth.

Sports Day
Evolving from school PE lessons, the collection is a grown up take on sports and dance style. Whilst still retaining an athletic edge, Sports Day inspires unstructured and soft layering with feminine detailing for a laid-back look. Washed silks adorned with decorative hardware, in the form of zips and studding adds a utilitarian element to the luxurious fabrications. A black base frames a colour palette of ashy neutrals and shades of grey, with vibrant colour blocking providing an interesting contrast.
