[Gold Coast, QLD Australia.], June 15, 2012 - GROWN® Eyewear has announced the launching of their sustainable wood and bamboo eyewear collection.

The Gold Coast based company has chosen social responsibility as a core aspect of their initiative and will be redistributing profits towards funding visual health programs. Jeff Phillips, the company's founder, noted that for every item purchased, GROWN® will fully fund sight-restoring eye surgery for one person or diagnostic eye examinations for twelve children through their giving partners, Seva® Canada Society and the Fred Hollows Foundation.

Phillips states that "Vision is an essential part of leading an independent life and with up to 80% of the 285 million global cases of blindness being avoidable or curable, we created the Grown Vision™ project. Our aim is to support prevention and treatment efforts and increase awareness that both are affordable and in high demand." With GROWN® Eyewear, sight-restoring eye surgeries and diagnostic eye examinations are carried out by their two giving partners throughout twenty four countries worldwide including, Australia, Cambodia, India and Tibet.

Seva® Canada Society, a Vancouver based organization (www.seva.ca), which celebrated its 30th Anniversary on April 6th, has been implementing blindness prevention and sight restoration programs since its inception. Similarly, GROWN's second giving partner, the Fred Hollows Foundation, which is based in Australia, is celebrating it's 20th Anniversary of providing sight-restoring work this September. In their nearly 50 years of combined efforts, Seva® Canada and the Fred Hollows Foundation have helped restore sight to over four million people around the world.

Penny Lyons, SEVA Canada's Executive Director noted “As a new innovative eyewear company, GROWN’s desire to create well-designed, sustainable and environmentally responsible products aligns strongly with Seva’s own values. We look forward to strengthening our relationship with GROWN® as they successfully build their brand and business while giving the power of sight to those most in need – women, children and people living in extreme poverty and isolation."

Available for online purchase from growndesigns.com, and through selected retailers, GROWN® Eyewear comes in seven styles, with a range of sustainable wood, bamboo and polarized lens colors to choose from. The collection starts at $140 and Phillips adds that due to the unique characteristics of both wood and bamboo, every pair is completely unique, but each will make a major difference in at least one persons life.

The idea to create sustainable eyewear began in 2010 when Phillips saw a friend wearing a plastic pair with a faux wood-grain pattern, "they jumped out at me" noted Phillips, "I wondered if anyone had ever made an actual pair of wooden eyewear before, and immediately started doing research. It's amazing how quickly the idea has transformed into something that has the potential to change the lives of such a large number of families, and restore sight to thousands of people."
