When Shoe Design is About More Than Just Aesthetics... Keep a Close Eye on PJUX

Behind the quirky name are two serious shoe designers, who have realized their dream of creating a luxurious collection which combines innovative design with ethics.

Shoes with meaning PJUX is slang for shoes in Swedish. Make a note of the name, because the Swedish-English design duo have just launched their debut Spring/Summer 2008 collection with a real message, which sets them apart from the rest. Design, quality and super comfort are blended with fair trade and environmental awareness - an untraditional cocktail for shoe production.

Since February 2006 the Copenhagen based designers have put all their energy into developing their shoe concept. They avoid the trend for mass production in Asia, where unethical working conditions and low quality dominate, and opt for a more traditional location in Southern Europe.

Experience from the super league Both educated in footwear design at DeMontfort University in England, the designer pair have heavyweight experience with international fashion brands Miss Sixty and Lacoste. They have swapped the large companies for PJUX, where they are free to develop their ideas without compromising their ideals. The whole collection is produced in natural materials with environmentally conscious production techniques.

Thorough research, perseverance and determination have made it possible to produce the first collection, released in February 2007. PJUX's contemporary designs have made it difficult to produce using normal techniques. A solution was eventually found in Spain- a country with a long tradition of quality shoe production and craftsmanship. They found a small artisan factory with a big interest in the PJUX concept and the ability to manufacture the innovative designs. Despite the luxury grade of the collection, it is the ambition of the designers to make the shoes within the consumers' financial reach. PJUX has been chosen as one of the brands to exhibit at Trapholt Museum in Kolding during the Art and Design Exhibition Biennalen 2007.
