TREND SPARK!

By Alexandra Suhner, London Editor | Week 26 | 13.10.2008

Paris Spring Summer 2009 Catwalk Collections Trend Round Up

Future Warrior

The Future Warrior was seen on many Paris catwalks for Spring Summer 2009, Balenciaga, Gareth Pugh, and Balmain all used armor shapes in their collections, redesigned and reconditioned to create modern armies of women.

Peach and Orange

Peach and orange were both key colors on the Paris catwalks, with Ann Demuelemeester combining the two in one look.

Dominatrix

Following on form the Future Warrior look, the Dominatrix woman was seen on Dior, Givenchy, and Karl Lagerfeld's catwalks, strong and fierce is the attitude for Spring Summer 2009.

Mixed Prints

Spring - Summer collections always feature an array of prints, but this season designers are mixing their print designs into one outfit. Not patchwork, but there are certainly some unusual combinations.

Textured Metallics and Shine

Like the other cities, Paris' catwalks had a great deal of metallic and iridescent fabrics, most noticeably the textured metallics and shiny textiles at Chanel, Balenciaga and Balmain.

Statement One-piece Swimsuits

Jean Paul Gaultier, Celine, and Chanel showed fashion forward one-piece swimsuits in their collections.

Rounded or Pointy Shoulders

The tailoring on the Paris catwalks was about extremes; structured, geometric jackets were complimented with soft, rounded shoulders, or pointy sleeve heads and shoulder angles.

Bow Belts

With the emphasis on the waist continuing to be a key part of the fashion silhouette, many designers embellished their pieces with bow detailing on the waist or belt, emphasizing the femininity of this silhouette.

60s Shifts

As a contrast to the defined waist, many designers opted for a 60s shift silhouette, Yves Saint Laurent's had texture, Lanvin's was about shape, and Balenciaga's had geometric cut out detailing.
