Bread and Butter Barcelona Trend Round Up |
Bread and Butter was hot, but Barcelona was even hotter so it was hard to tear ourselves away from the glorious beach and check out the tradeshow. Here are a few trends and products I thought were interesting from the world’s leading sportswear and denim show. |
Reebok
Reeboks’ Spring Summer 2009 collection was filled with crazy colors, textures and shapes. Their new version of the Pump sneaker came in tennis ball neons - a collaboration with Alife trainers- disco metallics, and fashion forward color combos, so if you are going to be investing in fashion trainers next season, go bright and exciting. Oh yes, and they are probably good for exercising in too, but who wants to bother with that.

Doc Martens
Again, color was the main theme in this collection, with patent pastel baby pink, mauve, and aqua 8 holed boots. What really caught my attention were these bizarre primary color shoes and boots, with matching soles and laces, they look like they are a wax sculpture. You need to be brave to pull off Ronald MacDonald style shoes, without looking like the clown himself, but with the right outfit, these shoes will make one hell of a statement.

Levis
Levis are re-launching their 501 jean for Spring Summer 2009. You may think this isn’t a very interesting thing to report, considering all of the exciting developments in denim recently, but I thought it was a breath of fresh air.
Instead of being confused about the style of jeans you should be wearing (skinny jeans, high waisted skinny, boyfriend cut, high waisted flare, bell bottoms,…) why not opt for the most classic jean shape in the world.
Also, everyone probably already has a pair in their closet (or steal your Dad’s) so at least this won’t be an expensive trend to follow.

I Saved Laurence
This hot t-short brand based in London is known for its funny graphic prints and crazy plastic jewelry.
I have never been much of a printed t-shirt person but I have been unable to resists some of his designs (check out the Killer Shoes tee.)
Spring Summer’s collection includes some hilarious oversized pendants and brilliant t-shirt motifs.
Also, he uses American Apparel gear, and everything is printed in London, so the quality and ethics are safe.
