TREND SPARK! Week 10 | 23.11.2007

TREND SPARK!

By Alexandra Suhner, London Editor | Week 13 | 14.12.2007

This will be the last Trend Spark of 2007! I'm off to the Swedish countryside to eat festive herring and play in the snow. I will be back in January but, for now, here is a few of the Bests and Worst of 2007. Happy Holidays!

-Alexandra Suhner

Best Sparks!

Worst Sparks!

Eco Issues Eco Issues

Finally, people are starting to pay attention and lots of big brands are too. More and more companies are thinking seriously about Corporate Social Responsibility and there are more and more brands that are offering eco-friendly fashion that isn't hippy (un)chic. Hurray for the environment!

Fashion Wars Fashion Wars

There has been some seriously bad vibes in the fashion industry this year, including the smash and grab scooter crimes in London's luxury boutiques, Christopher Kane's stolen collection, and the falling outs between Suzy Menkes and Marc Jacobs, or Rachel Zoe and Anna Wintour. Why can't everyone pretend to be friends?

18th Amendment Goodbye Skinny Jeans!

Thanks to 18th Amendment and friends, skinny jeans are finally on the out. Thankfully, they are not completely out of fashion, so we can still wear them (because our wardrobes are full of them!), but at least now we have denim choices! Goodbye muffin top!

CrocsCrocs

Originally, Crocs Shoes were intended as a boating/outdoor shoe because of its slip-resistant, non-marking sole in 2003.

But...

God help us if this trend ever resurfaces.

A Shaded View On Fashion Fashion Blogs

Fashion Blogs are getting better and better. I used to read three a day, now it is up to ten.

It is great that there is a voice in fashion that isn't coming directly from a magazine, and that they finally being recognized for their influence.

My favorites are The Business of Fashion, Style Bubble, The Sartorialist, On the Runway, and A Shaded View On Fashion, but there are so many more great ones!

Prince Rainier III Limited Edition 81

Prince Rainier III Limited Edition 81

The most expensive pen? Who needs it?

In 2007 Mont  Blanc launched the "Prince Rainier III Limited Edition 81," a fountain pen encrusted with 996 diamonds and over 100 rubies. Here is an example of ridiculous extravagance, which accurately reflects this crazy obsession the super rich have with differentiating themselves.

Now that almost everyone can afford Gucci, luxury brands are offering a plethora of ridiculously overpriced exclusive items, products in an attempt to maintain the exclusivity of their brands, while still selling bucket loads of designer perfume to the masses.

Make up your minds! At least 51% of the sale of the pens (only 81 of them) will go to charity.
