O'Neill

Luella Bartley has just announced a second collaboration with O'Neill for the Autumn Winter 2008/2009 collection. Although I've never been a big fan of Luella, it is good to know that there will be some good ski wear available for next winter.

Going to the mountain, especially in Europe, can be quite a social event and it is extremely hard to look fashionable when wearing eight layers of clothing and sliding down the mountain on your bum (if you're like me, and not the best snowboarder in the world.) Unfortunately, I have been invited to a chalet this winter, which means I am going to have to have a panic and find something suitable for the slopes in January. Or, as my friend suggested, we can just sit in front if the fireplace and eat fondue. I think I'll opt for the latter.

Michael Kors

I have always been a huge fan of Michael Kors, he is one of the few American designers who seems to always stand for the same thing: classic, American luxury clothing.

It's always sharp and elegant, but without looking like its trying too hard. He is also the king of Cruise wear. Michael Kors has just opened a lifestyle boutique in SoHo, which will be the first to carry all three of his lines.

The new flagship carries 90% accessories and targets a wide market, with a variety of price points.

I am a fan of the Brookville bag, which is priced at $298, a steal compared to the European luxury brands.

Hermes Chaine D'Ancre bracelet

This week's gift spark is the Hermes Chaine D'Ancre bracelet. I know its expensive but it is timeless, classic, and one of my favorite pieces of jewelry of all time.

I first spotted it ten years ago when I was working in Paris, and it took me six years to finally get together enough money to buy one for myself. I purposely waited until I was in Paris to buy it, purchases like this are always best made in the flagship store.

Anyway, I never take it off and am now yearning for the necklace version. And although everyone always yearns for the blue (Tiffany's) or red (Cartier) box, there are many people who would be equally happy with the famous Hermes orange and brown box. Plus, considering the price of anything Cartier these days, $890 is not THAT much to spend on a great piece of jewelry. Perfect for mother, daughter, wife, girlfriend, best friend, or gay friend.

KoodosThe newest trend for luxury shoppers seems to be buying from members only websites that offer discounted luxury goods. The American version is Gilt Groupe, www.gilt.com and the British version is www.koodos.com. Both are members only; however Koodos seems to be slightly more selective than Gilt. With Gilt, you need to be recommended by a user, at Koodos you can just register yourself. These sites allow luxury brands to sell their extra stock to selected customers. I am not a member of Gilt Groupe, however, I must say I have been tempted several times by Koodos. I love the Gucci Indy bag and they have a black leather version with silver trim on sale for £750, down from the retail price of £1200. The sales usually last one day as the products sell out very quickly, they send you an email announcing when the sale begins. I have slightly less information about Gilt Groupe, but it seems its going to be a big deal. They only started in November, but apparently membership is growing at an alarming rate. Let's all hope we get recommended soon!
