TREND SPARK! Week 10 | 12.04.2008

TREND SPARK!

By Alexandra Suhner, London Editor | Week 10 | 12.04.2008

Fashion Spark!

I bought a new pair of glasses last week. Not sunglasses, but real glasses, ones that I wear on my face all day. This is always a very major purchase for me, not only are glasses expensive (the ones I like, of course, plus prescription lenses) but they also seem to transform my whole life.

Five years ago I spotted a pair of horn-rimmed Chanel glasses in a magazine and spent three months on a mission to find them. Once I bought them, I immediately adopted a pseudo secretary feel to my look, and now, every time I buy a new pair of glasses I seem to subconsciously transform myself into the person I think would wear them. This has happened since my fist pair of "fashion" glasses when I was 17. I think his is absolutely normal for anyone who makes brave choices with their eyewear, you cannot underestimate the importance of something you wear on your face everyday. Three months ago, I spotted another pair of Chanel glasses and carried around the magazine ad in my handbag until I finally found them last week in a London department store. They aren't very discreet, but I am really looking forward to getting the prescription lenses put in so I can transform myself into the person I think should be wearing them: a serious yet stylish, sexy yet nerdy mysterious professional. This will involve lots of high waisted pencil skirts and my new YSL black patent peep toe pumps, on the days I am not wearing my contact lenses, of course.

H&M have just announced their newest collaboration, this time with the Japanese fashion brand Comme des Garçons.

The collection will include womenswear, menswear, children's and accessories.

The will also be a unisex fragrance in the collection, which will be launched in Tokyo in November, and then worldwide a few days later.

With so many UK brand opting to use celebrities to endorse limited edition collections, it is so refreshing that H&M is consistently choosing respected designers as collaborators.

"I have always been interested in the balance between creation and business. It is a dilemma, although for me creation has always been the first priority. It is a fascinating challenge to work with H&M since it is a chance to take the dilemma to its extreme, and try to solve it", says Rei Kawakubo, Comme des Garçons.

Music Spark!

This crazy yellow (as seen on the dress by Andrew GN Spring/Summer 2008 ) has been catching my eye recently.

It is definitely the type of color that needs courage to be worn, however, with the right complexion and outfit, it can be very striking.

This vintage 70's top, with the deep collar and the large pocket flaps is halfway between MacDonalds uniform and cool.

Try a top in crazy yellow with a pair of denim cut-offs and carved Miu Miu sandals.

Last week I was at the UK premiere of Martin Scorsese's "rockumentary" on The Rolling Stones, entitled Shine A Light. I was fortunate enough to be invited to the premiere (I wore SOnia RYkiel, Dior, and Zara on the red carpet, if you're wondering) and after braving the hordes of screaming fans we got to get comfy in the oversized cinema sats and watch the movie.

It is a definite must-see if you are a fan of the Rolling Stones, and don't wait for the DVD, see it in the cinema. It's like sitting front row at a concert with an amazing view of all the bands but without being shoved about and having sore feet from standing for two hours. The live show, filmed in New York's Beacon Theater, was mixed with video clips from the early years. There aren't many 60-something men that turn me on, but Mick Jagger has certainly still got "it."
