TREND SPARK! Week 8 | 09.11.2007

By Alexandra Suhner, London Editor | Week 8 | 09.11.2007

Ossie ClarkThe Ossie Clark name is to be re-launched for Autumn/Winter 2008. Famed for his printed chiffon dresses and snakeskin jackets in the sixties and seventies, Ossie Clark was also known for designing outfits for Mick Jagger, the Beatles, Marianne Faithfull and Liza Minnelli.

He was married to Celia Birtwell, who designed the prints for his signature chiffon full length dresses. Birtwell recently re-launched her print designs in a sell-out collection for Topshop. Clark felt victim to drug addiction and his life ended tragically when his boyfriend murdered him. The re-launch collection is funded by one of the WGSN founders, and will be presented during the next London Fashion Week. Avshalom Gur, who has worked for Donna Karan and Nicole Farhi, as well as having his own collection, has been named creative director.

Christian Louboutin Words can barely describe my love for these Christian Louboutin shoes!

Named the Anemone Stiletto Pumps, they feature the most incredible ribbon bow on the back.

Made of black crepe satin, a signature red sole, priced at $925 and approximately 120mm high, they are not for everyday wearing.

They are; however, perfect to keep preciously in a box only to be exposed for very special occasions, or when you need to caress something beautiful.

Sonia Rykiel’s famous Domino bag This month’s i-D magazine features very heavily on punk themes, which brings me to the question, how many times can this trend be revived in the space of ten years?

When I first moved over to France from my native Canada, punk was having a revival, in a sort of eighties way, but nevertheless, heavily influenced by Sex Pistols looks. Since then, there have been punk influences in fashion at least once every two years.

Just studs alone are managed to stay in the limelight, with this season’s Burberry and Givenchy studded collections, D&G’s studded shoes last season, Sonia Rykiel’s famous Domino bag from seven years ago, and many more. The great part is that we can continue to wear our studded punk gear season after season, the downside is that if we had known this was going to be fashionable for so long, I am sure we would have all invested more!

Jonathon Saunders Two young London designers have recently launched collaborations with beauty brands. Jonathon Saunders has just launched a range of cosmetics with Boots Pharmacy.

Entitled 17 by Jonathon Saunders, the collection features beautiful packaging designed by the print master himself. The four lipsticks and eye shadows come in seasonal fashion tones.

Marios Schwab, known for his exquisitely constructed, figure hugging dresses, has teamed up with Sure deodorant to offer the most fashionable deodorant cans.

The two limited edition cans hold Sure for Women Crystal deodorant, which promises no white marks. The designs are feminine and inspired by art deco. Now that fashion brands are taking over our bathrooms, what’s next? The Christopher Kane toilet brush?
