New York Spring/Summer 2010 Collections Trend Round Up

Outrageous Prints

Prints are bold, bright, and outrageous for Spring Summer 2010, with a lot of designers choosing to mix up different shocking prints. Anna Sui's prints were 70s inspired, seen on mini dresses and tights, while Thakoon mixed up different colored prints in his signature draped dresses.

Sheer Layering

Sheer fabrics were in abundance on the New York catwalks, often seen layered over smaller pieces. Zac Posen featured sheer black evening trousers, while Ralph Lauren paired an oversized sheer white shirt over a white slip.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

Betsey Johnson and Anna Sui are known for creating collections that can bring a smile, however, for next Spring Summer, "fun" is the key word in how women will be dressing. Bright colors and entertaining accessories, "styled with a smile" will feature in day and evening wardrobes, particularly for those with a sense of humour.

Strapless, short-sleeved, long-sleeved, high waisted, belted, or harem pants, jumpsuits will continue to be in our summer wardrobes, seen at Preen, Marc by Marc Jacobs, and Carolina Herrera.

Flouncing Fancy

Light flounces and rows of ruffles are a key trend for Spring Summer 2010 dresses. Oscar de la Renta, Ralph Lauren, and Mulberry all showed rows of flounces in light fabrics on the skirts of day dresses.

The little black dress is very little next season, with short hemlines, and often short or no sleeves. Seen at DKNY, L'Wren Scott, and Tommy Hilfiger with black strappy sandals, for a sexy and classic look.

Doo.Ri, Donna Karan, and Calvin Klein all featured shades of grey on their catwalks, making this a key color for the Spring Summer 2010 collections.

Punky Dresses

Narcisso Rodriguez, Rodarte, and Proenza Schouler all featured sexy, punk, evening dresses. These are short and sharp, and work with very high heels.

Metallic Fabrics

Michael Kors, Isaac Mizrahi, and Marchesa all featured metallics in their Spring Summer collection, seen predominantly in evening wear, although a few designers showed daywear in silver and pewter.
