One of Barcelona’s coolest hotels is also one fo the most reasonably-priced.
Hotel Banys Oriental is in the middle of the El Born neighbourhood, one of the best shop
ping areas in the old town. Surrounded by great shops and restaurants, this hotel is also walking distance from the beach.
The rooms are super-well designed and decorated (think Wallpaper*), so basically a top boutique hotel at a bargain price. Rates start at €82 for a single room.

Spain is a great place for shoes, and Barcelona is filled with little shoes stores selling beautifully made stylish leather shoes. The El Born and Barri Gotic areas have lots of independent shoe boutiques, and, since a lot of great shoes are made in Spain, the prices are quite reasonable as well.
The best ones I saw last week were at Loewe, one of Spain’s top luxury brands. The suede teal boots were fun, cool, statement pieces, a perfect complement to the winter neutrals. The snakeskin sandals were super-luxe, but still practical with a solid heel. These two pairs certainly don’t fit into the “reasonable price” category, but they are a great souvenir to bring back from Spain.

Barcelona is one of Europe’s skateboarding capitals. The sidewalks and squares are perfect for doing tricks, and the weather means you can skate year round.
This is an abundance of skateboarders in Barcelona, boys and girls of all ages, and this has had a great influence on the streetwear trends in this Mediterranean city.
Free is a skateboarding shop in Raval, another cool shopping area near the centre of the city, carrying all of the necessary equipment (decks, wheels, and bearings), clothing, footwear, and accessories. At Free, you are bound to bump into some of the world’s pros, who are all flocking to the city to take advantage of the streets and sun.

Spain may not be famous for its pastries (like France) or its chocolate (like Belgium or Switzerland) but Barcelona is certainly dominating the market of designer sweets and ice cream.
Neighbourhoods like El Born and Barri Gotic are awash with unique shops selling uber-designed cookies, avant-garde candies, and artisanal ice cream.
My favorite is Xocoa, which specializes in super well-packaged chocolate bars in amazing flavours like ginger, rosemary, 90% cocoa, green tea, and lemon verbain.
