TREND SPARK! Week 2 | 19.01.2008
TREND SPARK! Sweden Issue |
By Alexandra Suhner, London Editor | Week 3 | 27.01.2008 |
A weekend in Stockholm is enough to make me consider relocating. Despite the cold weather, this city is cool, fashionable, and beautiful, without being arrogant. The food is also super yummy AND healthy, and there is loads of eye candy, boys and girls! Here is a few of my favorite Swedish brands, all worth checking out when in Sweden, or wherever you are. |
Acne Jeans |
Filippa K |
This denim brand also sells womenswear and menswear fashion collections, children's wear, and will soon launch men's underwear.
This brand is the definition of effortless and cool, with a killer denim collection for boys and girls.
They also do shoes and other accessories, all with the edgy-Swedish-design-cool factor. Their Acne Studio stores, only in Scandinavia for the present time, are worth visiting, if you can find them, its the type of brand that doesn't have a sign outside.

Simple, classic, cool clothing and with great retail spaces.
Filippa K is a very "Swedish" brand, with an ethos of creating people's "favorite clothes".
The shops are generally quite minimalist and focus on the clothing. The knitwear is great, basics that aren't basic, if you now what I mean. The silver peep-toe pumps caught my eye in Stockholm, and now I really regret not buying them. They would have definitely been my "favorite silver shoes."

Ordning & Reda |
Cheap Monday |
Swedish design is always about simplicity and function with good design, Ordning & Reda is a stationary brand that represents this in every possible way.
Their collections of pens, notebooks, diaries, and other office/writing supplies makes you want to clean your desk and start working.
Actually, you even want to remodel your office to look like one of their shops.

Many of you probably know about Cheap Mondays' skinny jeans, available in many crazy colors and very good prices. (You may also know, like me, that their sizing is depressingly small, if you think you are a size 27, you are actually a size 29!)
Their concept stores, Weekdays, in Stockholm and other key Swedish cities offer an insight into the Cheap Monday "world".
The staff is all attractive, thin Swedes wearing ultra skinny jeans, the ultimate brand ambassadors. The full clothing collection is available in their own stores, alongside many other great brands, which also includes a lot edgy women's and menswear, also at their extremely accessible price points.
