Fashion Spark!

Design Spark!

Maison MargielaIt seems like big shoulders are officially back, although thankfully not everywhere. Maison Margiela, Vivienne Westwood, and Stella McCartney all showed it for Fall Winter 2007, and we are seeing it on the Spring Summer 2008 catwalks as well (Margiela again, Bottega Veneta, and Fendi) which means it is here to stay.

It seems the look is not only about wide shoulders, but also large or puffy sleeve heads that give the impression of big shoulders, or short sleeves that extend beyond the natural shoulder point. This is a nice move from the skinny tailoring we have been used to for the past few seasons, and works well with baggy trousers or flares (which are also coming back...)
PizzaKobraDesigner Ron Arad's new table light for iGuzzini is one of the most innovative lighting designs this year.

Named the PizzaKobra, it resembles at times a pizza, and at other times, a cobra, depending on how you shape its unstructured, fluid form.

The metal is soft and sinuous, so very easy to reshape and the mirrored metal also creates an interesting movement with reflections.

Plus it looks REALLY cool.

Style Bubble

Style Bubble has been going on for ages now (that is, in terms of blog life spans) and my love hate relationship with it has given way to the fact that it is an excellent resource for fashion.

Susie Bubble's lack of training in fashion has given her an unlikely edge: she gets very excited about things that jaded fashion people would not.

Also, the blog is a great way to find out about new designers, events, shops, and magazines.

Sometimes it is a bit long, and sometimes we need to look at some her unsavoury fashion outfits, but now that I have been reading it for a few months, I have realized it is a fashion must-read.

I Am As You Will BeThe Cheam & Read gallery's exhibition on the skeleton in art - I Am As You Will Be: The Skeleton in Art) is surely a reaction the amount of skulls we have been seeing in fashion recently (that is, if the world revolves around fashion...)

Regardless of its reason, the exhibition includes a array of artists (including Salvador Dali, Louise Bourgeois, Damien Hurst, Picasso, and more) and explores the skeleton as an artistic subject. Nowadays, the skeleton is not only a symbol of death, but can be portrayed as perverse, cynical, and sometimes even funny.

I Am As You Will Be: The Skeleton in Art ends on November 3, 2007.

Make sure to wear your Vivienne Westwood skull earrings.
