JCPenney Introduces Solitude by Shaun Tomson

Surfing Icon Inspires Relaxed Lifestyle to Menswear Nationwide

J. C. Penney Company, Inc. and surfing legend Shaun Tomson have joined forces to launch Solitude, a California lifestyle-inspired men's apparel brand. Debuting in over 500 JCPenney stores nationwide in February, Solitude was created for the man who seeks to simplify his life through a relaxed style. The collection, developed by surf icon Shaun Tomson and his wife Carla, a fashion designer, is reminiscent of the Santa Barbara lifestyle the couple personifies with soft, wearable pieces in washable quality fabrics, soothing, sun-kissed colors and comfortable silhouettes.

Produced and distributed by Oxford Industries, Solitude will be sold exclusively at JCPenney stores and online at http://www.jcpenney.com/ . "Solitude will be a great addition to our selection of proprietary brands as it fills a need for men who are looking to infuse casual yet sophisticated pieces into their wardrobe," said Lana Cain, executive vice president and general merchandise manager for men's apparel at JCPenney. "The colors, textures and prints all reflect a carefree spirit and a man who knows how to enjoy life during his free time."

Ideal for travel due to its easy-care fabrications, the Solitude line includes basic tees and woven shirts, shorts, pants and swimwear. Garments will maintain their quality and fit through routine machine washes and dries at low settings. Retail prices will range from $42 - $45 for woven shirts made of plush cotton and $38 - $50 for shorts and pants in linen and sanded microfiber. "Solitude clothing represents a design approach that offers him an escape from the pressures of the modern world," said Shaun Tomson, co-founder of Solitude. "By partnering with a trusted national retailer like JCPenney, we are able to offer this serenity to a vast marketplace."

Shaun and Carla Tomson, who balance their time between parenting, working and surfing in Santa Barbara, hope their coastal living designs inspire a renewed sense of spirit. "I want my customers to view my clothing line as a way to experience the same relaxed state of mind I draw from the ocean, which has always been my personal refuge and solitude."
